Maratha Community Gotras (मराठा)

The Maratha community is historically structured under the 96 Kuli (Shahannav Kuli) Maratha system. Each of the 96 royal and noble clans is explicitly linked to one of the ancient Vedic Gotras (predominantly Kashyapa, Vashishtha, Bharadwaj, and Gautama) along with a specific Vamsha (Surya, Chandra, Bramha, or Shesh), Kuladaivat, and Nishan (crest). Marriage within the same Kula and Gotra is avoided.
