Baniya / Vaishya Community Gotras (वैश्य / बनिया)

The Vaishya (Baniya) community encompasses the historic trading, banking, and agricultural lineages of India. Major groups include Agarwals, Maheshwaris, Khandelwals, Porwals, Modh Vaniks, and Gahois. Each division maintains gotras founded by ancestral sages (such as Kashyapa, Shandilya, Gautama, Garga) to preserve genetic diversity and honor spiritual ancestry.
